Glendale issued 174 building permits for single-family homes in fiscal 2017, up from 42 in 2014.

Recently approved housing communities are smaller than earlier sprawling subdivisions, each being in the 50-home range and filling in developed areas.

Much of Glendale’s growth is in the southwest area.

Sales manager Jim Clark said the homes will average about 2,100 square feet with a tentative starting price of roughly $230,000.

Construction on four new developments is scheduled to begin in August.
